Plattsburgh Groups Protest War

A couple of North Country anti-war groups do not want you to forget our troops are still fighting in the Middle East.

Members of the Democracy for America and Veterans for Peace stood in protest at one of Plattsburgh's busiest intersections Saturday.  It marked the sixth anniversary of the war.

Jack Andrus said while the economy is getting more attention, the war in Iraq is still a problem and needs to be resolved.

"We're concerned that people are losing sight of the fact that the war is still going on," said Andrus.

Andrus said he was glad at the car honks and positive signs they received.  He doesn't know anyone personally involved in the war but he said as it continues, it's leading to more problems stateside as the suicide rate increases.

"It's the highest it's ever been," said Andrus.

Bill Provost said he's glad the Bush Administration is out of office, but he believes the U.S. will always have a presence in the Middle East.  He added as long as we continue to fight, he will protest at least once a year.

Both Provost and Andrus said they would like to see the war resolved in the next three to nine months.
