Simpsons stamps a big hit in Springfield, Vt.

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - The debut of "Simpsons" stamps was a big hit in the Vermont town that claims the cartoon family as its own.

Fans of the Fox TV show crowded the lobby of the Springfield Post Office on Thursday to buy stamps featuring Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The post office also had a special cancellation stamp that reads "The Simpson Station," with a picture of Homer Simpson dropping a bowling ball on his foot, the Rutland Herald reported.

The stamps went on sale in 34,000 post offices nationally, but they had special meeting in Springfield, which two years ago beat out 13 other like-named cities for the right to host the premiere of "The Simpsons Movie."

On the show, the Simpsons live in a town called Springfield, but the state is never mentioned.
