CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire is getting a state dog.
Gov. John Lynch is scheduled to sign a bill Monday honoring the Chinook, a cross between a husky and a farm dog, the only breed to have originated in New Hampshire.
The Chinook is known as a smart, fast sled dog. There are almost 800 registered Chinooks today, and 450 of them live in New England.
A group of seventh graders from the Ross Lurgio Middle School in Bedford lobbied for the bill. Lynch was scheduled to join them for the bill signing.
