A Burlington man recently released from a juvenile detention center after being held as a juvenile sex offender, is charged again. He has also been asked to move.
Dustin Moore had been living at his family's home on North Avenue across from the John J Flynn elementary school for about a week, before the court ordered him to move. 18 year old Moore was charged last week on one count of a prohibited sex act, which allegedly occurred in April.
Moore was 17 at the time so the details of the offense are not being released. Information on his prior offense is also not available.
Moore is staying at a relative's house for the time being. Some parents feel the move was a good idea.
"Parents definitely have a right to feel like their kids are safe when they're away at work or wherever they are," said Aram Sevakian whose son attends school at John J Flynn elementary.
Moore also has to check in with the Burlington Police Department daily, and is only supposed to leave the house for legal and medical reasons.
The city of Burlington started looking into putting a sex offender ordinance in place in August, but no decisions have been made yet.
"The fact that there was not an ordinance really didn't have an impact one way or the other. We were able to get a court order to prevent him from residing at the location at the north end of Burlington," said State's Attorney T.J. Donovan. He also said that such orders are pretty rare.
Moore will be back in court on Tuesday for a status hearing.
