It's still a reality that Major League Baseball could come in at anytime and shut down Centennial Field. But fans are trying to keep that from ever happening, by starting two petitions to save the field.
Centennial Field needs major repair to its dug outs, lights, home locker rooms and concrete seating and it's estimated to cost about five to seven million dollars.
"We have to improve the facilities in order to keep professional baseball here," Lake Monster fan Wendy Farrell said.
So fans have started two petitions. One to the University of Vermont, for a twenty year memorandum on the park.
"Ask them to commit to preserving this historical landmark," Farrell said.
The second, to the State's Congressional Delegation to secure federal funds for repairs.
"Finding five to seven million dollars is to be a little bit of a challenge, I think it's achievable," Farrell said.
"We got a lot of work to do, we need a lot of money to do it," Lake Monster fan Lefty Guillette said.
For eight decades, Lefty Guillette has watched thousands of baseball games at Centennial Field. Guillette even played high school ball here and will tell you baseball is more than just a game it's life.
"The shortest distance between people is a smile and that's what you see on every face in this stadium. I don't know what I would do without it," Guillette said.
Fans just started collecting signatures on Wednesday, and already have five hundred on both petitions.
