Vermont 1st Grader Sent To Hospital With Flu Like Symptoms

Posted: Updated:

On Monday at Bellows Free Academy Elementary in Fairfax, a first grader was sent to the nurse's office with flu-like symptoms.

"The nurse took the child's fever and it was very very high," School Superintendent Bruce Chattman said.

Local rescue was called and rushed the student to the hospital.

"That's the most scary part of the flu is the high fever," Chattman said.

Chattman says this is the first student in his district to be sent to the hospital with severe flu symptoms.

BFA Fairfax is also seeing double the amount of absences.

"I think the flu season is here, maybe a little bit later than parts of the state," Chattman said.

Chattman says the high absent numbers is proof that parents are taking the health departments advice to keep their children home if they have any flu like symptoms, which helps keep the other kids healthy and safe.
