Local Students Hope To Keep Soldiers Cool

Posted: Updated:

Some students at Georgia Elementary & Middle Schools are in the middle of a very important mission aimed at helping soldiers serving overseas.  Mrs. Alspach's second grade class has been making neck coolers for the troops and learning some lessons in the process.

So far the class has made 40 coolers and they will work through the end of March before boxing them up and sending them through  Boatsie's Boxes (www.boatsie.com), a non-profit organization conceive by Gail Van Vranken in 2004 while her son was serving in the Air Force and stationed in Baghdad.

The second graders, along with their teacher and five parent-volunteers, do it all from measuring to cutting and sewing fabric.
