Forecast Discussion:
Two systems of note will impact our weather in the near term forecast. The first comes this morning, and will be the weaker/less impactful of the two. The next is poised for our region on Friday which has the potential to bring several inches of snow for most of the region, mixed with some rain in southern VT/NH/New England.
First, let's talk about this morning's system. A wave of low pressure will ride along a stagnant front bringing mainly valley rain, and snow for the northern mountains. Areas that do see snow will find about 1-3" through midday Thursday.
A brief lull in the action late day Thursday with another fairly mild day on tap as high temps reach the low 40s for the valleys, and mid-upper 30s across the higher terrain.
A stronger system will impact the region by Friday morning bringing snow, probably by 7am for most areas. Snow will accumulate throughout the day for most, while some rain may mix in for southern Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as the southern Champlain Valley by midday Friday. Snow will taper off, and retreat to the mountains Friday night and Saturday morning. Snow totals will actually be impressive (by comparison of a lame winter thus far...). 4-8" across northern NY and northern/eastern Vermont look highly feasible. Meanwhile, in the Champlain Valley 2-5" (most in the northern extent of the Valley), and 1-3" south plus some rain.
