Temperatures soared to new heights Sunday in the Queen City.  With a full 11 hours and 21 minutes of sunshine on October 9, 2011 the high temperature reached 80 degrees at the Burlington International Airport.  The previous record was 79 degrees in 1970.

The warmest high temperature ever reached (on record) in October at Burlington, VT is 85 degrees.  The average high for October 9th is 60 degrees.  This is some exceptional warmth!

Here are some other local record high temperatures that were at risk of being broken.

The numbers on the left in orange are the standing records as of Sunday morning.  On the right are the actual high temperatures.  The record high was tied in St. Albans, VT and broken in Burlington.  It was also broken at the peak of Mount Mansfield in Vermont. The high temperature reached 71 degrees and the previous record was 67 degrees.

To the south, Rutland, VT did not break the record high.  Woodstock, Vermont, Plymouth, and Newport, New Hampshire did however! Lebanon was able to tie the record high and Mount Washington reached an impressive 52 degrees!  Getting temperatures in the lower 50s for the top of New England in October is very impressive!

And for all the football fans out there, the New England Patriots kicked off to their warmest temperature at Foxboro, MA in 20 years.  At the start of the game, CBS pointed out the temperature was 82 degrees, the warmest in two decades for a Pats home game in October.
