If you live in the area, you know 2011 has been a crazy year in terms of the weather. From big snowstorms early in the year, to record flooding on Lake Champlain, to devastating floods from 'Irene', and now early season snowstorms in parts of our area.
Crazy actually seems like an understatement. So it should come as no surprise that our precipitation for the year has been WAY above average. In fact, we are already the 3rd wettest year on record (with 47.26" so far), and unless November and December are bone dry, we are likely to have seen the most precipitation of any year... ever.
But would you have guessed that we have also been a very WARM year? It may not have always seemed warm, given all the rain and snow we have seen, but its true. In fact, every single month this year (with the sole exception of March) has been above average in terms of the temperatures... often by 2 degrees or more! In fact we may go down as one of the WARMEST years on record as well as being one of the wettest.
Here is the temperature breakdown compared to the average for each month;
January: + 0.2°
February: + 1.2°
March: - 0.9°
April: + 1.9°
May: +2.7°
June: + 0.5°
July: + 2.2°
August: + 1.6°
September: + 3.6°
October: + 2.0°
What surprises will 2012 bring?? Only time will tell....
