A mild weekend ahead of us! With south-southwesterly flow both at the surface and higher atmosphere, mild air will flow into the northeast. Mild, by late November standards anyway. The average high temperatures for valleys in our region in late November is in the low 40s. Today we will surpass this by about 10 degrees.
This is not just for the valleys, though! As warmth streams in at higher levels of the atmosphere, you can expect anything but a cold day on the mountains today as several area ski resorts continue to open up. I expect mountain peak temperatures (~2500-3500' elevation) to be around 45 degrees (compare that to the average temperature of 29 degrees for the top of Mt Mansfield for the date...that's warm!). Of course, this is not ideal for the mountains as they will probably have to postpone snow blowing efforts until the temps cool back off.
I expect a big change up by Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. A large, high amplitude trough will be digging into the deep south, allowing colder air to reach all the way down to the Gulf coast! This trough shifts into our region by mid next week and will bring the return of more seasonable conditions, and perhaps more stormy weather as well.
