01.03.12 Weather Impacts Everything!

Posted: Updated:

While working a weather shift last week I heard a story on our news about the Iowa caucus.  It was just the normal news story until I heard a sound bite from Mike Huckabee saying, "If the weather is bad, Ron Paul will win.  If the weather is good, Mitt Romney will win."

Wait a second!  The weather could help determine between

 or !!!

I love it!  I get excited when weather affects things, but especially abstract things like a political event.  I wouldn't have thought that would!

Okay so here's the breakdown from a couple of sources.  According to Bloomberg Business Ron Paul is favored during bad weather because Paul supporters are die hards.  They will apparently go out in sleet, snow, blizzards, wind storms, rain storms, or other inclement weather.

On the other hand Romney attracts "mainstream Republicans" who  will support Romney and come to the polls, but only until the weather turns bad.  So if the forecast is for 20s and freezing rain, more Paul supporters will come out than Romney.  I love how the political statisticians have figured this out!

Well the day is here my friends and it's looking good for Romney (even though Mr. Santorum has been making the headlines and moving up in the polls).

On the water vapor image, large high pressure is cresting across the upper Midwest and Iowa.  Here on this image, look for the blues and purples for storm systems, and the flat grays for drier weather.

Per the NWS in Des Moines......

Sunny and 30s for the weather today!  According to the NWS this is pretty seasonable for this part of the country this time of year.  Best of luck candidates.
