02.14.2012 Remember 5 Years Ago?!

So when I look outside the studio windows at Fox44/ABC 22 I see a brown grass.  I've been waiting for the "big one" this year as have a lot of other snow lovers.  So in order to remind myself what snow looks like (kidding :) ) I have been looking back at pictures from previous winters where we got slammed!

This picture was taken on the night of Valentine's Day Eve near Mallets Bay, VT.

A very powerful coastal storm blanketed the region with a widespread swath of one to three FEET of snow!  It single-handedly broke the one-day snow record for a February day in Burlington.  Snow totals in many towns surpassed 30 inches!  Wow what a day :)

Now here are some pictures below from when I was at Lyndon State College in Lyndon, Vermont. My fellow classmate Eric, who studied meteorology with me, took the pictures.

I will admit in the picture above, that is my car in the parking lot! At this point we probably had more than a foot to 18 inches of snow, and I couldn't resist sliding around in the parking lot a little bit :) My car happened to get stuck in this snow bank.

And some of my other classmates used whatever they could to dig out, even a trash can pictured here.

The parking lot was just filled with bumps in the snow cover, where cars laid under about 30 inches of fresh snow in Lyndon.  Then shoveling off the snow easily made piles more than five or six feet high.

There are a lot of stories and memories from that day, so if you'd like to share them go ahead and e-mail the SkyTracker weather team at weather@fox44now.com or share thoughts/pictures on facebook just search 'Fox44 Local News'.
