So, this is February, huh?? I guess I can handle this! Compared to years past, this winter seems nothing short of just plain weird....am I right? I've lived here my whole life and I can't recall a winter like this. Grass instead of snow? Snow shovel quietly waiting in the wings? Ice scraper sitting comfortably in the back seat of the car. It's so crazy to me.
Here are the numbers to date for the Burlington area (courtesy of the National Weather Service in Burlington-thanks guys!). 27.5" to date (nearly half of average, and about 1/3 of what we had this time last year)...
Yep! Way behind. Behind average, behind last year. At this rate, we need to be on watch for some records for LEAST amount of snow to be broken.
For an entire cold season, here are the record for LEAST amount of snowfall... unless we get some snow, we might be added to this list for the 2011-2012 season. We shall see by the end of it....
Least snowfall for a season:
(this year: 27.5" would be #1 if we were done...but there's still time to catch up...)
1) 31.3" (1912-1913)
2) 32.0" (1904-1905)
3) 38.3" (1928-1929)
4) 38.7" (1926-1927)
It may also be of interest to you to know that Albany, NY is in a similar boat with just 13.9" of snow to date this season, a whopping 26.7" LESS than average (and 46.8" LESS than this time last year!)
